As at the close of the sale of ePINs on February 14th, 2023, a total of 1,527,068 candidates had successfully registered for the 2023 UTME exercise, including the 168,748 candidates who indicated their interest to take the Mock-UTME. The board had projected its capacity to register up to a hundred thousand candidates per day, but less than fifty thousand candidates turned up for registration before the closing date. However, the pace of registration picked up remarkably in the last two days before the deadline, with over a hundred thousand candidates registering on a daily basis.

JAMB explained that it had granted the extension due to reports from across the country indicating difficulties faced by many Nigerians in purchasing ePINs or obtaining cash within the stipulated period. The extension is to ensure that all candidates who desire to register for the 2023 UTME are given the opportunity to do so, especially since the challenges are not of their own making.
