UTME 2024: JAMB Clarifies Incident of Harassed Hijab-wearing UTME Candidate, Ensures No Time Loss

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) affirmed that Ms. Tiamiyu Ayisat Morenikeji, the Hijab-wearing UTME candidate who faced harassment, did not lose any scheduled time during her examination. Following the incident at Bafuto Institute, Ejigbo, Lagos, where officials sanctioned for asking Tiamiyu to remove her Hijab, JAMB's Public Communication Advisor, Dr. Fabian Benjamin, debunked claims of a 30-minute delay in her entry. Benjamin dismissed calls for compensation as a misleading narrative, stating the issue was resolved before the official screening commencement. He credited the timely intervention of the CBT centre supervisor, an Islamic studies lecturer, for addressing the matter. Additionally, JAMB announced that candidates facing technical glitches during the ongoing 2024 UTME would be rescheduled. Registrar Professor Is-haq Oloyede attributed these issues to varying levels of technological development across regions and urged affected candidates not to disrupt others, assuring them of rescheduled exams.
