FG, ASUU Enter Talks on 40% Pay Rise

Dec 03, 2025  University

The Federal Government (FG) has reportedly proposed a 40 percent salary increase for lecturers under the Academic Staff Union of
Universities (ASUU) to prevent a potential strike.
ASUU's leadership has agreed to resume negotiations with the government delegation, following a decision made at its National Executive Council (NEC) meeting, held after the union's one-month ultimatum expired.
Key issues remain, including the review of the 2009 agreement, payment of outstanding earned allowances, and the university revitalisation fund.
The Minister of Education maintains the government has met "literally all" of ASUU's demands and reiterated President Tinubu's directive to prevent any strikes. Negotiations are set to continue, with the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) expressing support for ASUU'S position.
