Feb 28, 2026  University

United Nigeria Airlines and Afe Babalola University, Ado Ekiti (ABUAD) have officially signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to provide specialized industrial training for the university's engineering students.
Under the terms of the agreement, approximately 20 final-year Aeronautical and Aerospace Engineering students will be enrolled annually in the Student Industrial Work Experience Scheme (SIWES) at the airline’s facilities. This partnership is set for an initial 10-year renewable period and comes at no financial cost to the university, serving as a strategic investment in human capital.
The collaboration aims to provide students with practical, industry-driven experience by giving them access to the airline's aircraft maintenance departments. Both the Vice-Chancellor of ABUAD, Prof. Smaranda Olarinde, and the airline's founder, Prof. Obiora Okonkwo, emphasized that this synergy between academia and the private sector is essential for developing a new generation of skilled Nigerian aerospace professionals.
