The assessment highlights 15 institutions that serve as the primary pillars for technical and vocational training in the country.
Yaba College of Technology (YABATECH) ranks first as the oldest higher education institution in Nigeria, recognized for its innovation and strong engineering programs. It is followed by Federal Polytechnic Ilaro, noted for its disciplined learning culture and industry-ready graduates. Auchi Polytechnic and Federal Polytechnic Nekede also feature prominently due to their academic rigor and reputations in the South-South and South-East regions, respectively.
Other institutions on the list include Kaduna Polytechnic, The Polytechnic Ibadan, and the Lagos State University of Science and Technology (formerly LASPOTECH), all praised for their historical significance and practical career focus. Northern Nigeria is well-represented by Federal Polytechnic Bida, while the South-West includes Rufus Giwa Polytechnic and Federal Polytechnic Ede.
The ranking also acknowledges specialized and regional leaders like the Institute of Management and Technology (IMT) Enugu, Federal Polytechnic Ado-Ekiti, Federal Polytechnic Oko, and Akwa Ibom State Polytechnic. Additionally, the Petroleum Training Institute (PTI) Effurun is highlighted for its unique, industry-specific focus on the oil and gas sector. Collectively, these institutions are recognized for providing the technical proficiency and hands-on skills necessary for success in Nigeria's competitive economy.
