Dr. Hamid Bobboyi, the Executive Secretary of the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC), has reaffirmed the commission's commitment to assisting state governments in transforming their schools into smart institutions. He mentioned the Niger State Government's plans to establish Smart Schools across the state, aiming to deliver quality education in line with the demands of the 21st century.

During his visit to the Science Model Primary School Chaza Suleja, one of the five science model schools earmarked for conversion, Bobboyi highlighted that the smart schools would offer 21st-century education. These schools will feature IT-enabled classrooms for preschoolers, primary, and junior secondary school classes, alongside e-libraries, clinics, and laboratories, catering to the needs of the internet age.

Bobboyi emphasized that UBEC's smart education program includes building and equipping schools nationwide with modern instructional and vocational materials. This initiative aims to fully implement e-learning programs in basic education following the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Alhaji Muhammad Ibrahim, Chairman of the Niger State Universal Basic Education Commission, explained that the state decided to participate in the Smart School program to enhance access and quality education. The goal is to upgrade schools to world-class standards and provide high-quality education to compete globally.

A team from UBEC's Digital Resource Centre, led by Dr. Hafsat Lawal Kontagora, visited schools in New Bussa, Suleja, Beri, and Lapai to evaluate their readiness for smart education. Dr. Kontagora expressed satisfaction that many state governments are embracing the Smart Schools Program, aiming to provide high-quality education focusing on creativity, innovation, problem-solving, and critical thinking.

The Federal Government has established 37 smart schools across the country, with 14 already operational, each equipped with state-of-the-art facilities.
