The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has announced the release of the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) result for private candidates who took the exam in the first series of 2023. According to Patrick Areghan, the Head of National Office, WAEC Nigeria, out of the 8,348 candidates that sat for the exam, 4,161 were male and 4,187 were female.

The statistics of the candidates' performance revealed that 2,960 candidates representing 35.46% obtained credit and above in a minimum of five subjects (with or without English language and/or mathematics). 2,003 candidates representing 23.99% obtained credit and above in a minimum of five subjects, including English language and mathematics.

WAEC provided special needs assistance to 27 candidates with varying degrees of special needs. Eight of them had visual challenges, two had impaired hearing, and four were albinos. All candidates with special needs were adequately catered for during the examination.

However, the result of 413 candidates has been withheld by WAEC due to various cases of examination malpractice. Candidates who took the examination can check their results on the WAEC result portal, www.waecdirect.org. They can also apply for their certificates online through the WAEC Certificate Request Portal, https://certrequest.waec.ng/.
