The University's Public Relations Officer, Ademola Adesoji, formally announced Professor Oyeweso's appointment in a statement released on Tuesday, 20th February 2024. According to the statement, Professor Oyeweso will oversee Postgraduate studies in the University, reporting directly to the Vice-Chancellor. His appointment took effect from Wednesday, 14th February 2024.

Professor Oyeweso is a distinguished Professor of History, graduating with a Second Class (Upper Division) from the University of Ife (now Obafemi Awolowo University) and earning his M.A. degree and Ph.D. from the same institution.

"Professor Oyeweso has held several key positions within the University, including Pioneer Provost of the College of Humanities and Culture, Ikire Campus; Pioneer Director of UNIOSUN Business School; Pioneer Chairman of the Committee of Provosts, Deans, and Directors; Director, Centre for Human Resource Development and Life-Long Learning; Director of Advancement, among others.

He is a Fellow of the Historical Society of Nigeria and a member of the Nigerian Academy of Letters. His remarkable academic accomplishments and contributions to the field have established him as a leading authority on Nigerian history, politics, religion, and culture, as evidenced by his numerous publications since 1986," Adesoji added.
