"JAMB Withholds Names of Top Scorers in 2024 UTME to Prevent 'Mmesoma Saga' Repeat"

The Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has announced that it will not disclose the names of the top scorers in the recently concluded 2024 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME). Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, the JAMB registrar, made this known at a press briefing in Abuja's Bwari area on Monday, April 29. Oloyede stated that the board considers the UTME the sole ranking examination in the country. He explained that the decision to withhold the names of the top scorers was to prevent a recurrence of the 'Mmesoma saga' from the 2023 UTME. This refers to the incident where a 19-year-old claimed to have scored 362, although her actual score was 249 on the UTME JAMB portal, leading to confusion and misrepresentation of results.
