The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has confirmed that its plan to introduce a fully Computer-Based Test (CBT) system for the 2026 WASSCE for school candidates is firmly on track.
WAEC, through its Nigeria National Office Head, Dr. Amos Dangut, assured the public that a key concern regarding travel has been addressed: no candidate will have to travel more than two kilometers from their location to take the exam. This assurance is based on a new school mapping strategy.
The Council also clarified the implementation of the Federal Government's revised curriculum. Notably, new core subjects like Citizenship and Heritage Studies and Digital Technologies will not be examined until 2028. For the 2026 and 2027 exams, candidates will only be tested in three core subjects, with the total number of required Trade Subjects being significantly reduced. The deadline for Continuous Assessment Scores submission will also be extended to help schools adapt.
