The University of Abuja's branch of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has announced an indefinite strike. Dr. Sylvanus Ugoh, the branch chairman, stated that the strike aims to highlight issues of concern to the union. The decision was reached at the end of a congress held at the institution's Permanent Site on Thursday, May 2.

Education analyst Deborah Tolu-Kolawole GenZ mentioned that ASUU is accusing the outgoing vice-chancellor, Prof. Abdulrasheed Na’allah, of not following due process in appointing a new VC. According to Tolu-Kolawole, Prof. Na’allah placed an advert in a national daily for the position of VC, which ASUU considers incorrect. Ugoh argued that no other organ or individual has the legal authority to initiate the process of appointing a new VC.

In another development, ASUU warned of a potential strike in Nigerian universities due to the stagnant salaries of lecturers since 2009, despite the country's challenging economic conditions. Professor Monday Igbafen, the Coordinator of the ASUU Benin Zone, highlighted this concern during a press briefing in Benin City.
