The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has clarified that the rumored release date of August 5 for the 2024 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) results is “unofficial.” WAEC's communication officer, Moyosola Adesina, advised students and parents to wait for official updates from the examination body regarding the results. According to a report by The Punch, Adesina mentioned that the WASSCE results might be released before or after August 5, emphasizing that results are typically issued on or before 45 days after the last paper is conducted. He pointed out that it has not yet been 45 days since the exams concluded, stating, “The date being circulated has not been verified or confirmed by WAEC. It’s speculative—it could be before or after that date, but likely not on that exact day.”

Meanwhile, Jamiu Abubakar, an examiner, also noted that the coordination and marking of the 2024 WASSCE have just been completed. He indicated that, all things being equal, the results could be released anytime soon, possibly in the first weeks of August. He also mentioned the potential impact of a planned August 1 protest, should it occur. 

It had been reported online that WAEC would release the 2024 WASSCE results on August 5. Legit.ng previously reported that this year's WASSCE began on Tuesday, April 30, 2024, according to a timetable released by the regional examination body.

**WAEC Comments on the Marking of the 2024 May/June SSCE**

It was also earlier reported that the coordination and marking of the 2024 May/June WASSCE would take place at 86 marking centers and 3 e-marking centers across Nigeria. WAEC confirmed that the marking exercise is ongoing at these venues spread across the country.
