FG Begins Final Steps for YABATECH University Upgrade

The Federal Government has begun considering the recommendations of the committee set up to
upgrade Yaba College of Technology
(YABATECH) to the University of Technology and Vocational Studies.
President Bola Tinubu, speaking through the Minister of State for Education, confirmed this during YABATECH's 37th Convocation Ceremony.
The upgrade, which Tinubu approved in February 2025, aims to integrate technical training with advanced research to boost economic growth.
The YABATECH Rector, Dr. Ibraheem Abdul, described the move as a "historic milestone," positioning the institution to become Nigeria's first specialized university focused on technology and vocational studies.
During the ceremony, 8,654 students received various diplomas and certificates for the 2023/2024 academic session.
