A non-governmental organisation, Science Olympiad Nigeria, has trained 46 secondary school teachers from across Ondo State to strengthen their skills in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics ahead of the 2026 Science Olympiad tournament.
The training, held in Akure, focused on improving teachers’ capacity to coach students for science competitions, enhance classroom instruction, and promote critical thinking, collaboration, and problem-solving skills.
Organisers said the initiative is aimed at increasing students’ interest in STEM subjects, building a technologically skilled workforce, and recognising excellence among both teachers and students. The programme also emphasised equal participation of boys and girls in science-related fields.
Preliminary rounds of the Science Olympiad are scheduled to hold in February, with state competitions taking place between March and April, while the national finals are expected in July.
The Ondo State Ministry of Education reaffirmed its commitment to expanding participation from public schools and strengthening supervision to ensure improved performance in science competitions across the state.
