The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has announced the release of the results for the 2023 November/December West African Senior School Certificate Examinations (WASSCE) for private candidates (second series).

A total of 80,904 candidates sat for the examination, with 35,830 candidates (44.29%) obtaining credits and above in at least five mandatory subjects, including English Language and Mathematics. This marks a slight improvement of 2.13% over the 2022 performance, where 30,954 candidates (42.16%) achieved a similar result.

In terms of gender performance, 17,631 male candidates (representing 49.21%) and 18,199 female candidates (representing 50.79%) obtained credits and above in the required subjects. This indicates that, as usual, more females performed better than their male counterparts.

The Head of National Office, WAEC Nigeria, Dr. Amos Dangut, made the announcement in a statement released by the council’s spokesperson, Mrs. Moyosola Adesina, on Tuesday night. He stated that 78,419 candidates (96.93%) had their results fully processed and released, while 2,485 candidates (3.07%) had some subjects still being processed due to errors traceable to them.

Furthermore, the results of 7,192 candidates (8.89%) are being withheld due to reported cases of exam malpractice. Dr. Dangut assured that the council would expedite the investigation process and communicate the outcomes to the affected candidates.

Dr. Dangut also mentioned that the results of all 211 candidates with special needs, including visually impaired, hearing impaired, and albinos, had been fully processed and released.

Candidates are advised to check their results on the council’s website (www.waecdirect.org) and can also apply for the printing of hard copies of their certificates online through the WAEC Certificate Request Portal (e-Certman) website (https://certrequest.waec.ng/).

A total of 4,162 examiners participated in the coordination and marking of the exam scripts at seven traditional and one e-marking venues nationwide.
