Graduates and students of the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN) have cause for celebration as President Bola Tinubu has instructed the federal Ministry of Education to integrate them into the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) scheme. Tinubu also mandated that NOUN Law graduates should be accepted into Law School in the country to ensure equal opportunities.

The president made this announcement at the 13th convocation ceremony of NOUN held at the university’s Convocation Arena in Jabi, Abuja, on Saturday, April 13. Tinubu, represented by the Deputy Executive Secretary of the National Universities Commission (NUC), Noel Salihu, stated, "With the changing demographics of our great nation, the government has recognized the importance of allowing NOUN graduates to participate in the NYSC scheme. The doors of the Law School are now open to the graduates, ensuring equal opportunities for all. Any remaining concerns or uncertainties should be promptly addressed by the Federal Ministry of Education."

He further emphasized his government's commitment to enhancing the quality, accessibility, and affordability of this mode of education in Nigeria. Tinubu highlighted the significance of Open and Distance Education in achieving the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals and pledged to expand its access to higher education across the nation.
