During the 2025/2026 matriculation ceremony of Shanahan University in Onitsha, Anambra State, former presidential candidate Peter Obi and Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe urged 694 newly admitted students to prioritize hard work, discipline, and integrity.
Peter Obi shared his personal journey, emphasizing that education was the key factor that allowed him to rise from a primary school student in Onitsha to a national leader who eventually sat at the same table as former heads of state. He encouraged the students to take their studies seriously, noting the privilege of having a university within their community.
Senator Abaribe, the keynote speaker, warned the youth against the "get-rich-quick" syndrome and social vices such as "Yahoo Yahoo," cultism, and political sycophancy. He described these paths as unsustainable and urged the students to embrace academic excellence and strong character to become impactful leaders. The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Josephat Oguejiofor, reaffirmed the institution's commitment to maintaining high standards of quality education.
