Nigeria Accounts For 1 Out Of Every 5 Out-of-school Children Globally – Minister

Nigeria accounts for one out of every five out-of-school children globally and 45 per cent of out-of-school children in West Africa, according to the Minister of Education, Prof Tahir Mamma. He expressed concern over this statistic, especially for a country seen as Africa's largest economy.

The minister, represented by Dr Olatunji David, emphasized the federal government's commitment to addressing the out-of-school children issue. He called on stakeholders, including civil society organizations and community and religious leaders, to take urgent action.

Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq of Kwara State, speaking at the launch of the National Campaign on Out-Of-School Children in Ilorin, highlighted his administration's efforts to improve public school enrollment. He mentioned investments in e-learning systems, digital literacy centers, and innovative teaching techniques.

AbdulRazaq praised the Federal Ministry of Education for selecting Kwara State to benefit from the national program, expressing hope for increased school enrollment and the eradication of out-of-school children.

Prof Sheu Adaramaja, the Chairman of Kwara State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), commended the governor's commitment to basic education, citing investments in infrastructure and human capital development. He lauded the governor's efforts, stating that history will remember him for his contributions to the sector.
