Good News For Nigerians as UK Universities Consider NECO Results For Admission

May 16, 2024  Admission

The Registrar of the National Examinations Council (NECO), Prof. Ibrahim Wushishi, announced that some universities in the United Kingdom are considering admitting Nigerian students based on their NECO results. He mentioned that Lead University and Birmingham City University in the UK have contacted NECO for information on its examinations, indicating a growing credibility and acceptance of NECO results by international institutions, according to Daily Trust.

Wushishi shared this during an interactive session with journalists in Abuja on Wednesday, May 15. He revealed that NECO has already met the requirements of Birmingham City University and is working on fulfilling Lead University's request. He also noted that the complexity of NECO examinations presents challenges for an immediate transition to Computer-Based Testing (CBT).

NECO administers exams to nearly 1.5 million students annually, covering 76 different subjects and over 150 papers for admission into tertiary institutions. Additionally, NECO announced plans to begin conducting the Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE) internally in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. This decision follows the accreditation of Nigeria International School in Jeddah, owned by Alhaji Abdulkadir Maikudi, as stated by Azeez Sani, the acting director of NECO's Directorate of Information and Digital Communication.
